In my brown era – fashion edit
Brown is the new black. It’s not only the colour of the year thanks to Pantone’s Mocha Mousse but the shade that we’ve seen the most on SS25 runways.
I’ve been obsessed with brown the whole 2024, and basically created my whole wardrobe around this colour. Since I got back to my natural dark blond hair colour, I realised that brown shades compliment my skin tone so beautifully. That’s why I’ve shopped a lot, and made a beautiful brown curated corner in my closet. I want to tell you about a few pieces that I think are particularly good “brown investments” in my opinion (as always links to exact and similar products are here to help you).
Brown outerwear: I am guilty of having a lot of them: a faux fur, a leather coat, a leather jacket and a suede jacket. Can’t help it – they look amazing. I think my Le Brand faux fur is my most worn item of 2024.
Brown bag: I’d choose a suede one. Suede is such a beautiful and interesting material. Whenever I pair a brown outerwear with a brown suede bag I get so many compliments. My absolute favourite this past year has been the Mako brown suede bag.
A brown pair of sneakers: I fell in love with brown Nike Cortez the moment I saw them. I found them to be less mainstream than Adidas Sambas (maybe just for now).
The Miu Miu glasses: Actually, I didn’t know I’d ever wear glasses before this model. I have a visual impairment but couldn’t find the right glasses to suit my style and personality. The Miu Miu glasses give me the cool “librarian aesthetic” and match my closet perfectly.
The Rhode “Espresso” Lip Tint: it’s the perfect shade of brown. Looks so interesting on your lips and I can’t stop wearing it.
Do I think brown is a seasonal trend? No I don’t. It’s not a Barbie pink that lasts only because there’s a hype over Hollywood production. Brown is a classic and timeless shade and I think far more interesting to style than black. For me black looks perfect on its own (total looks for instance), whereas brown gives you an opportunity to play with different colour combinations. I style it with grey, burgundy, beige and navy for example.
